Kalkan Guru Restaurant on English Newspapers, the independent ,Turquoise Coast magasine, Daily Mail Newspaper, Aa Travel Guidelines, Observer Newspaper, Thomson Holiday Kalkan, Hurriyet Newspaper, The Examiner Newspaper.

We are currently on holiday near Kalkan and have with us a copy of the Rough Guide to Turkey.  We read your comments p.349 on eating in Kalkan which were confirmed by a trip to the waterfront: row upon row of restaurants offering overpriced food.  We gave up on the waterfront and settled for a more reasonable and tasty meal at Ali Baba, agreeing with your write-up.

As the guide suggested, we next headed for the three eateries 3.5km to the east of town.  We ate at Guru’s Place.  This is a small, family-run restaurant, right next to the D-400 with a nice view onto the sea (see their website).  Although close to the road, the volume of traffic did not disturb our meal.  We sat out on their vine-covered terrace, which has a choice of Western-European tables and chairs or Turkish raised sofas with a small table set in the middle.  Guru’s place specialises in offering a small number of Turkish dishes, freshly cooked.  Our waiter was tremendously helpful, explaining each of the dishes in excellent English.  The food was of a high quality.  Meze were priced at 7-8 TL each, mains 15-20 TL, half the price of Kalkan waterfront.
The restaurant has a website www.kalkanguru.com, offers Turkish cooking lessons three times a week and a free shuttle service from Kalkan to the restaurant and back.
We strongly recommend Guru’s place and suggest it features in the next edition of the Rough Guide to Turkey.
